My Passions and Interests
I like to think of myself as a pretty well-rounded person when it comes to my passions and interests. When it comes to academia, I have a interest and knack for mathematics and science, specifically physical sciences. Math is fun for me because it gets me to think of many different ways to solve a problem using logical, yet some abstract thinking. Physical science apply many different mathematical concepts into real world situations, which makes things more tangible and relatable for me, such as with physics or engineering. I also have a great passion for music, as it keeps me in a creative state of mind. I have played piano for about 7 or 8 years and have been teaching myself ukulele for about 4, and it always a great time relaxing, creating and expressing whatever types of emotions or thoughts may be going through my head. I also love to stay physical and play sports. I have 12 years experience in taekwondo and is among my favorites, but other notable sports that enjoy and/or play are jiujitsu, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, tennis, and baseball. Being active and getting my blood pumping is always a fun feeling. However, among my greatest passions is teaching and mentoring. For me, I want to be able to help as many people as possible, and I want to be able to share my knowledge and experience in order to accomplish that goal. Not only have I been mentoring and teaching at taekwondo for about 5 years, I have also taken up a job working for Mathnasium, a math tutoring service. I want to be able to put out good into the world, and my method for doing so is by educating others and helping those in need.
Reflection on "Looking at an Object like an Extraterrestrial"
Overall, I thought that this activity was very fun and thought- provoking. It allowed me to see such a mundane object from a new perspective, and allowed me to learn things about it I wouldn't have thought of otherwise. I think it gives us great insight into how we should be thinking going forward into our Capstone project. In this class, we are engineers, and this activity was a great way to help us think like one; thinking of fresh perspectives to look at something, asking questions that eventually lead to new discoveries, and taking what existing knowledge we have to draw new connections to new information. All these skills are important for an engineer and important for doing well with our Capstone Project, and I think that this activity was a great way to spark this type of thinking.
