Overview
This step focused on critically analyzing our designs. We did a lot of research on how well our design works, how different components are assembled, and how our product would affect the environment. We also did some introductions to 3D modeling.

Evaluation of Alternative Concepts
This is our Decision Matrix. This task allowed us to finalize our habitat design. We assigned different values and weights for each concept for each design. We also brainstormed and answer questions that helped us decide and weigh the criteria. Another key component of this task was creating individual assessments. This allowed us to compare our own opinions with the groups and allow for fair input. After calculating the results based on the criteria, we decided on our double dome design.
Product Life Cycle
This is our Product Life Cycle Analysis. This task call for research on all the inputs and output of our product, identify needed materials and processes for manufacturing, as well as any environmental impacts. The document on the left shows the extent of our research. The document on the right is a simplified graphic that explains our research in simpler terms.
3D Modeling
This was the 3D modeling practice. For this assignment, we follow tutorials for 3D modeling using the browser software, OnShape. The tutorials we followed helped us learn the basic steps, commands, and tools needed to make basic 3D models. I found using this software quite fun and learned a lot about 3D modeling and how it can potentially be used to assist in our project. The link for all the practices is below.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this research based step was successful. Our decision matrix showed how well our group was able to work together and make decisions together. And the research done for the Life Cycle Assessment, though tedious, was very thorough and complete. The 3D modeling practice was also great because it gives us another tool to display our work and construct physical models. Our next steps are to start testing for our designs. We will need to create a plan to test out the durability of our design.
